The FEED Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to ensure nutritious school meals for all children as a first step to improving the global food system.

In partnership with FEED Projects, LLC, the FEED Foundation has provided over 50 million school meals to children in the developing world through the United Nations World Food Program school feeding operations.

O ZEN

Como todas as escolas budistas, o Zen remete suas raízes ao budismo indiano. A palavra zen vem do termo sânscrito dhyāna, que denota o estado de concentração típico da prática meditativa. Na China, esse termo foi transliterado como channa, e logo reduzido à sua forma mais curta, ch'an (禪). Daí para o coreano como sŏn (선), e finalmente para o japonês como zen.

Segundo os relatos tradicionais, o estilo de prática Zen foi levado da Índia à China pelo monge indiano Bodhidharma (em japonês, Daruma), por volta do ano 520 d.C. No Zen japonês monástico, há duas vertentes principais: Soto e Rinzai. Enquanto a escola Soto dá maior ênfase à meditação silenciosa, a escola Rinzai faz amplo uso dos koans, ou enigmas, charadas.

Atualmente, o Zen é uma das escolas budistas mais conhecidas e de maior expansão no Ocidente.

Zazen

Para experimentar a realidade diretamente, é preciso desapegar-se de palavras, conceitos e discursos. E, para desapegar-se disso, é preciso meditar. Por isso, o zazen ("meditação sentada") é a prática fundamental do Zen.

Ao meditar, o praticante senta-se sobre uma pequena almofada redonda (o zafu) e assume a postura de lótus, a postura de meio lótus, a postura burmanesa ou a postura de seiza.

Unindo as mãos um pouco abaixo do umbigo (fazendo o mudra cósmico), ele semicerra suas pálpebras, pousando a vista cerca de um metro à sua frente.

Na escola Rinzai, os praticantes sentam-se virados para o centro da sala. Na escola Soto, sentam-se virados para a parede.

Stella é símbolo eco fashion. E faz questão de mostrar que moda eco não é artesanato nem se restringe à camiseta e calça crua. Gostar de roupa sofisticada, de se vestir bem e ao mesmo tempo se preocupar com meio ambiente é possível sim. Ela diz que não faz fast fashion e não quer ver suas criações jogadas no lixo no fim de uma estação. Suas roupas são feitas para durar.

Não é para menos que ela defende esta causa. “Aconteceu naturalmente pois eu fui criada em uma fazenda orgânica no interior da Inglaterra e todos somos vegetarianos”, disse a estilista em entrevista à jornalista Suzy Menkes.

 Seu pai é um defensor do meio ambiente. Sua mãe, Linda McCartney, era uma ativista nata em defesa aos direitos dos animais. Estranho seria se Stella não fosse engajada. Ela cresceu neste ambiente. E na sua profissão ela aplica esses valores. “We live on this Planet and we need to look after it”, disse a estilista em entrevista para publicação inglesa The Ecologist.

Na prática, Stella McCartney não usa couro de vaca na sua coleção. É expressamente contra o uso de pele de animais. Ela inclusive apoia o PETA e já fez vídeo para eles. Para a Adidas, suas criações são produzidas em tecidos de PET reciclado e algodão orgânico. 

Sua linha de lingerie lançada em 2008 é feita somente com algodão orgânico e mostra que é possível sim ser eco sexy. Além disso, a maioria de suas lojas e seu headquarter recebem energia de fonte eólica, usam sacolas de papel reciclado e outras feitas com milho biodegrádavel. Stella valoriza trabalhos locais dos quatro cantos do mundo, como da Itália, Índia, Japão, por exemplo.

E tem mais, a sua marca de cosméticos é eco, 100% orgânica. Lançada em janeiro de 2007 a Care desenvolve e vende produtos de beleza orgânicos e certificados pela Ecocert. Não são testados em animais, não são geneticamente modificados, não usam conservantes químicos nem ingredientes petroquímicos. As fragrâncias são originárias de óleos essenciais orgânicos.

Algumas pessoas encontraram jeitos particulares de lidar com o excesso. Lia Diskin, é exemplo. Tudo o que ela não movimenta num período de dois anos é doado. Podem ser livros, roupas, CDs, objetos de decoração, o que for. Sua biblioteca pessoal, hoje, não ultrapassa os 500 volumes. Para Lia, que possui meia dúzia de pares de sapatos - "Não preciso mais, só tenho dois pés"-, essas cinco centenas de livros são aquelas chamadas imprescindíveis, que ela está sempre a folhear e pesquisar. 

 

 

Segundo o químico Flávio Maron Vichi, professor do Instituto de Química da USP, dois anos é realmente o tempo-limite para um livro sobreviver sem estragos. "Depois disso, ele começa a se e ganhar manchas, resultado da falta de oxigênio", diz. Outros objetos, como CDs, quadros e fotos, também precisam ser arejados constantemente. Além da limpeza, necessitam de ventilação, fundamental para evitar fungos. Portanto, faz todo sentido passar as coisas adiante se num determinado período - você pode adotar a política dos dois anos ou criar um prazo-limite só seu - não precisou delas para nada.

 

O budismo diz que o apego pode nos asfixiar, especialmente quando a relação com os objetos é compulsiva, de pura posse.

Tomio Kikuchi, fundador do Instituto do Princípio Único e um dos introdutores da macrobiótica no Brasil, acha que o consumo deve ser equilibrado para que haja boa eliminação. "Quando retemos demais, ficamos doentes. Isso vale para os alimentos, os pensamentos e até os objetos", diz ele. A eliminação é vital para manter o organismo desintoxicado e saudável. Assim também funciona com a mente, o espírito e a casa.

Os índios sempre souberam disto: a acumulação não existe na natureza, porque tudo o que é retido vira fonte de destruição. Foi só quando se tornou sedentário que o homem começou a se entulhar de coisas, que passaram a ser necessárias quando nunca haviam sido.

THAI  SALAD                                                       

 

Scour a large supermarket or Asian grocer for additional ingredients with which to infuse your sauce – galangal, Thai sweet basil, coriander root… the more the merrier. Serves four.

Ingredients

400ml tin coconut milk

1 lemongrass stalk, pounded

6 lime leaves

1 very hot red chilli, cut in half

6 little red shallots (60g in total), peeled and very thinly sliced

40g ginger, peeled

½ tsp palm (or caster) sugar

1 tbsp thick tamarind water (that is, tamarind pulp whisked with hot water and strained)

½ tsp sesame oil

½ tsp soy sauce

1 tbsp fresh lime juice

150g Thai wide rice noodles

240g cooked butter beans

2 medium mangoes, peeled and cut into 2cm dice (400g after dicing)

20g coriander leaves, chopped

20g mint leaves, roughly chopped

½ tsp salt

80g cashew nuts, toasted and crushed roughly

In an attempt to explore the dichotomy of fixed versus migrational living, Djrudjica Kesic has developed a series of accessories rooted in the notion of domesticity. Using her personal belongings in an unconventional manner, Kesic, a jeweler from Melbourne, Australia, has deconstructed these “preloved” objects, such as pillowcases and wooden chairs, and re-purposed them, often hiding within them small, polygonal, house-like shapes. Utilizing these materials as an unorthodox foundation for her work, Kesic has created a variety of wearable odes to the complex concept of home, place and migration.

Explaining her concept for the event, Sejima said: 'The idea is to help people relate  to architecture, help architecture relate to people and help people relate to themselves. 

There will be independent spaces for each architect or each theme, which means that 

the participants will be their own curators. In this way contributors will design their 

own space and make presentations that consider the experience of the visitor both 

physically and conceptually. It will be a series of spaces rather than a series of objects.'

'The buildings, the atmosphere they create and the way they are designed may be a central point of departure for the next venice architecture biennale. 

(...) Now that we are in the twenty-first century, we can take this opportunity to step back and assess the spirit of our current times through this international exhibition of architecture, exploring the essence of contemporary architecture and the importance of new relationships when we enter the future. 

A significant point of departure could be the concept of boundaries and the adaptation of space.(...) It could be argued that contemporary architecture is an afterthought and perhaps and easing of borders themselves.'

Bellocq, the newly opened 'tea atelier' on the King's Road, was recently only available in New York, until founders Heidi Johannsen Stewart, Michael Shannon and Scott Stewart decided that we devoted tea-drinkers of the UK deserved a pick of the leaves too.

 

Pledging to stay true to the spirit and customs of tea production, the brand has fixed its sights on working with responsible gardens and merchants to get its tea supply. The result is a carefully curated selection in the London shop, ranging from pure whole leaf varieties for the purist, to the brand's palette of blended teas for the more adventurous soul.

 

Teas have names such as No. 22 Noble Savage and No. 39 Hindu Holiday, but these aren't just pretty names - the tea atelier is a tasting and design studio and not just a shop space, so all their blends are concocted on site, with an emphasis on small-batch quality teas that evolve seasonally. Ask for the 'tea cupping' service, which as the name suggests, is a process in which clients can taste and evaluate the quality of blends.
